Facebook’s new initiative to get users closer to their favorite celebrities by giving them access to status updates, photos and videos is now turning against them…sort of. It’s not that the idea isn’t good, it’s just that it lacks originality, and it reminds everyone so much of Twitter.
Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s CEO, said in a blog posting on Wednesday that the revamp of its homepage and the new features added are a must, “as the need for people to easily discover the most recent and relevant content has grown.”
Other changes include allowing the home page to stream updates to friends’ posts, choosing who they want to see on their home page, removing the friends limit and more. It does seem like Facebook is trying hard to make users happy, but it also seems like Facebook is turning into Twitter.
For example, Facebook changed the “What are you doing right now?” feature with “What are you thinking of?” which isn’t actually too far from Twitter’s “What are you doing?”.
Furthermore, the pages of celebs and organizations will now function like regular profiles, and will allow people to connect to them easier and faster.
Facebook promised more updates in the coming weeks, so the changes may not stop here. The new home page will go live as of next week.
