The three actors that have taken the part played by Heath Ledger in his upcoming film “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus” have allegedly donated their fees to the late actor's daughter, Matilda Ledger. The reason for this decision is the fact that Heath Ledger didn't update his will to include his daughter by the time of his death.
The three actors, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law, stepped in to fill Heath Ledger's place in the fantasy movie after the actor died of an accidental prescription drugs overdose in January 2008. Both his daughter, and his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Williams, Matilda's mother, were not mentioned in his will.
The actors made the gesture because they felt that Matilda might be facing financial problems and because the will did not protect her rights in any way. However, Ledger's relatives that were mentioned in the will said that they will look after Matilda and her mother, no matter what.
“The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus” is a fantasy movie about a theater troupe that travels from place to place and allows the audience to step through a mirror that takes them to an parallel universe.
According to the BBC News, Tim Gilliam, the director of the movie commented regarding the actors' gesture that ”The three actors were totally heroic coming in because this doesn't happen very often, where there is a tragedy and very famous and successful actors come in and say 'OK we'll do whatever it takes to help.' To be part of that is wonderful.”
