The Storm Is Over for the Spears Family

No family is perfect. And the Spears women make no exception. Britney Spears’ mom, Lynne, talked about her two daughters and the things they have been through on NBC’s “Today”, which aired on Wednesday morning.

Lynne appeared on the show in order to promote her freshly released book, “Through the Storm,” which she hopes will help people see beyond the scandals related to Britney and Jamie Lynn and “see our family as we really are.”

In addition to this, Lynne Spears spoke frankly about how it felt to watch her older daughter become an international superstar overnight. “It’s kind of like Britney was sent out into the world a little bit prematurely,” the teen icon’s mother admitted, but she did explain that the first phase of Britney’s overwhelming success was out of the ordinary, but fabulous. “Look at the wonderful trips she gets to go on; look at the wonderful people she’s meeting,” Spears recalled her first thoughts regarding Britney’s sudden rise.

However, the pop star’s mom said that their lives took a bad turn when she and her spouse, Jamie, divorced after a long period of marital problems. She explained that she was the one who talked her youngest child into entering the splashy showbiz lifestyle.

“When Jamie Lynn got involved in it, that was during the honeymoon period of Britney’s career, when everything was coming up roses. ... Everything was just fun,” Lynne Spears said during the morning program.

Things nevertheless went out of control earlier this year when Britney faced psychiatric problems and had to be hospitalized twice and 16-year-old Jamie Lynn announced that she was pregnant. Lynne said that her daughter handed her a note and suggested her to go into the bedroom and take a look at it. The note said that Jamie Lynn was pregnant, but that “everything was gonna be OK,” as Britney’s sister and her boyfriend Casey Aldridge would bring up the baby.

In spite of the fact that she initially thought that everything was a joke, Lynne subsequently realized that she was dealing with a serious matter, as the father of her daughter’s baby would not look her in the eye. “I was just truly in shock and then I started to cry. And then she started consoling me at that point,” Lynne said. She sure had a hard time, as she went through the same rough moments as her daughters did and maybe that’s the reason why Lynne blames herself for the problems her family endured.

“As a mother, don’t we always blame ourselves?” Britney’s mom said. “I took a lot of the blame. I took all the blame. The personality I have, it’s always my fault,” she added.

Furthermore, Lynne said that she owes a lot to her former husband, as he took care of Britney when she was not capable of dealing with the much talked about divorce and child custody situation and gained control over his daughter’s major issues.

Notwithstanding the fact that she experienced lots of trouble, Lynne said that she is no longer worried about her oldest child, as Britney “is strong” and “is headed to the top once again.”

Asked whether they were through the storm (with regard to the title of her book), Lynne said that the storm was over and that sunshine was lighting her family’s way once again.
