Actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will star in “Witch Mountain” for Walt Disney Pictures.
Apparently the literally rock-solid Dwayne Johnson is tapping into his very own soft spot for family-friendly entrainment. After it was announced earlier that he would star in the Disney family comedy “The Game Plan,” Dwayne is now reported to be in negotiations to star in “Witch Mountain.”
“Witch Mountain” tells the story of two children that have magical powers. If negotiations are successful, Dwayne will reportedly play a cab driver that picks up the two kids.
The film will be directed by Andy Fickman and the studio will begin production in March. The storyline will be related to that of the original “Escape to Witch Mountain,” which Disney released in 1975.
Andrew Gunn produces through Gunn Films, while Ann Marie Sanderlin is exec producer. Matt Lopez reportedly wrote the most recent draft.
The other Disney project Dwayne has been linked to is “The Game Plan,” where the actor plays a superstar quarterback that discovers out of the blue that he has a seven-year-old daughter.
He’s suddenly faced with the realities of being a father and the antithesis between partying and dating and taking a little girl to school and her ballet classes.
Actress Kyra Sedgwick has signed to co-star as quarterback’s hard-edged agent.
Dwayne most recently starred in the drama “Gridiron Gang,” released last fall. Come summer 2008, his fans will have the chance to treat themselves to “Get Smart,” where the actor plays Agent 23, alongside Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway.
The former professional wrestler turned to acting in 2000, guest starring in “Star Trek: Voyager” and “That '70s Show.” He played in 2001’s “The Mummy Returns” and had his first leading role a year later, starring in the follow-up to “The Mummy Returns,” titled “The Scorpion King.”
