The release of T-Mobile’s G1 smartphone is just two days
away and reports keep coming up over the Web, discussing its features and
chances for success.
There really isn’t mush left to say about the device, as
every aspect concerning it has been addressed several times. There are some who
say that it will crash and burn because it does not match up to the iPhone,
while others are extremely enthusiastic about its release ad praise its
features through their comments, blog posts and articles.
The company announced that the 1.5 million units
manufactured so far have already been pre-ordered, raising way above the two
companies’ expectations for this year’s sales. If the statement is indeed based
on real facts, it should put an end to all the negative responses, as such sales
figures recorded in a first week represent a massive success, no matter the
name of the company.
T-Mobile’s G1, manufactured by HTC, is the first phone to
use Google’s open-source Android operating system and this is one of the main
reasons for the huge interest shown in its release. Other attractive points are
its pull-out QWERTY keyboard and also its ability to run many third-party applications.
Even though the difference is not significant, the price is
another plus for the G1, which will be available for $180 under a two-year
contract with T-Mobile. Customers will be able to opt for a $25 plan with
unlimited Web, e-mail, instant messages and 400 messages or a $35 plan with the
first three features available and also unlimited messages.
