Christopher Paul Neil, the paedophile suspect
arrested earlier this week in Thailand,
was jailed for 12 days of questioning pending his trail on molestation charges.
Neil was arrested on Friday morning in Nakhon Ratchasima
province, 200 kilometers (125 miles) northeast of Bangkok after a two year
investigation.
"The court has jailed him for 12 days to allow for
police questioning," said Thai Interpol Superintendent Aphichart
Suriboonya. "If 12 days is not sufficient, police will request an
extension of the jail term."
Neill is facing charges of child abduction and molestation
and if found guilty he could be condemned to 20 years in jail in Thailand.
"So far he has only told Thai police 'no comment,' and
that he wants to see his lawyer," Aphichart said. "There has not yet
been a request for his extradition, but if there were Neil would still need to
face charges in Thailand
before being extradited."
Neil arrived in Thailand
from South Korea
after the release of his picture by Interpol with a "red alert," its
highest search signal.
The Neil’s brother said for Reuters that he would like to
see him returned in Canada.
"I would like to see him come back to Canada, but I understand it involves
an international incident and allegations," Matthew Neil said. Canada
has laws allowing it to punish paedophiles for their activities in other
countries.
Though no charges have been filed in Canada and British
Columbia Attorney General Wally Oppal said it’s to early to tell if Canda will
request the Neil’s extradition.
Neil has become a subject of an international investigation
after The German police discovered three years ago that his swirl-disguised
picture was common to scores of internet images of his paedophile activities in
Asia.
