In January this year,
Oprah opened her own store, a tasteful combination between a hip boutique and a
souvenir shop, just across from the Harpo studios, where there once used to be a
Chicago warehouse district.
The Oprah store has had a good year since the business
started out at the beginning of 2008, drawing approximately 250 shoppers daily.
This Friday, Oprah took her shop to the next level, by launching
an online version of it at www.theoprahstore.com,
which is set to sell about 90 percent of the items that can presently be purchased from
the Chicago store.
From the latter, fans of the iconic talk-show host Oprah
Winfrey can currently buy „O” umbrellas, coffee mugs, baby bibs and pet collars
and get customized bags and note cards, which have Oprah quotes printed on
them, such as „Live your own dreams.”
Nevertheless, the main attraction at the Oprah store is an
item called „Oprah’s Closet,” which is filled with garments she either wore or kept
in her own wardrobe. The money customers pay for the clothes and shoes in the
Closet goes to Winfrey's Angel Network, a charity that has lent much support to
various projects. All the items in „Oprah’s Closet” are priced from $80 to
$500.
Oprah Winfrey is one of the few celebrities who have their
own official store, another star of much the same caliber as the talk-show host
who has had such a shop having been Celine Dion, who owned a boutique at
Caesars Palace in Las Vegas over a period of five years.
