We hear that a gun was displayed in the hotel room
confrontation which led to the O.J. Simpson much talked about robbery trial,
but some say the former football star knew nothing about the firearm, while
others claim that O.J. Simpson was the one to ask for it to be brought.
Furthermore, was Simpson only trying to recover stolen
family objects or had he organized a criminal plan?
For weeks, jurors are going all-out to find appropriate answers
to these questions, while witnesses come and go to and away from the stand.
Charles Cashmore, 41, testified on Wednesday that he was
asked to help the ex football player move some objects and that he was present
in the hotel room during most of the confrontation. Moreover, he explained that
when he, Simpson and the other men left the room, he was asked to carry two boxes
and a pillowcase thick with various items from the Palace Station casino.
Charles Cashmore allegedly knew only co-defendant Clarence
“C.J.” Stewart and hadn’t met O.J. Simpson or any of the other men who took
part in last year’s confrontation until then.
The journeyman laborer, bartender and DJ reached a deal with
prosecutors and pleaded guilty to reduced charges. He said that he did not want
to spend a lifetime in prison for something he hadn’t anything to do with.
Charles Cashmore testified that another former co-defendant,
Michael “Spencer” McClinton was the one to pull the gun out during the
confrontation. He added that Walter “Goldie” Alexander also carried a gun, but he
did not pull it out.
O.J. Simpson and Clarence “C.J.” Stewart have pleaded not
guilty to a dozen charges, including kidnapping, armed robbery, coercion and
assault with a deadly weapon.
Wednesday’s trial began with Judge Jackie Glass forbidding
prosecutors to remind members of the jury of O.J. Simpson’s 1995 acquittal in
the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Roland
Goldman. What’s more, the judge did not permit Goldman family legal
representative David Cook to testify, as his testimony could have influenced
the jurors negatively.
