China has been criticized for their policy of censoring content on the Internet, mostly content related to pornography. Some recent data suggests that the number of people using the Internet in China is growing at an extraordinary speed. China's Internet population grew nearly 42% in 2008, which is remarkable as the data shows that most of the people were using broadband connections.
This means that China’s Internet industry is growing and even though the content and products in the Chinese Internet market are of lower quality of what you can find in the US, this is bound to change in a short amount of time.
The number of people in China using the Internet has reached nearly 300 million, exceeding the Internet population of the United States, which was number one in the world in this field. China’s usage of the Internet is expanding fast and maybe this is a reason for which the government is trying to keep a careful eye on the whole situation.
Search sites, such as Google and Baidu, were requested to cut off search results linking towards porn sites. Recently the Chinese government has asked the two Internet search sites to do this more efficiently as people are still managing to enter porn sites, even though they are outlawed.
The new resolution is sponsored by seven government agencies, including the Ministry of Public Security, and the agencies vaguely threatened websites found guilty of spreading or even linking to pornography.
