A nine-year-old Hillsboro, Texas boy who was nearly decapitated in a car crash three months ago, had his head reattached to his neck by doctors and now he's made virtually a full recovery. Doctors said Jordan Taylor had a one -to-two percent chance of surviving his horrific injury, called an orthopedic decapitation.
Stacey Perez was driving when a dump truck plowed into her car after running a stop sign, authorities said. Although Jordan was buckled up in the back seat, the impact was too much. “All of the connective tissue that essentially keeps your head connected to your neck was destroyed,” said Dr. Richard Roberts of Cook Children’s’ Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, the pediatric neurosurgeon that saved Jordan’s life.
They were able to perform the surgery and connect his head to his spine with the head of a metal place, as well as titanium rods. Jordan's mother called the doctor a 'miracle worker' and a 'Godsend.' "He's beyond expectations. He's a rock star. He's doing great," shared Dr. Roberts regarding Jordan's recovery.
However Perez says her most nightmarish memory of the accident was looking into the back seat to see the horrific injury her 9-year-old son had sustained. "I remember getting out of the car and looking over at him and seeing his how his head had just fallen down," she said.
But all’s well when it ends well and the mother said Jordan surprised everyone by regaining his speech and walking without the help of a walker. He will return to school after Christmas break. Moreover Jordan’s stay in the hospital was enlivened by visits from some of his favorite sports stars, such as Tony Romo, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
