Fortune has presented some very promising news about the new
3G iPhones. Apparently, AT&T is going to rebate or subsidy $200 for the
customers willing to sign a two-year contract. The price for the two-year
commitment will be of $199. In addition, Fortune
said that Apple is expected to launch two versions of the 3G iPhone, an 8 GB
model for $399 and a 16 GB version for
$499.
The same Fortune article mentioned that current US iPhone users
pay around $100 every month for their iPhone service. This means that will be a
win-win situation, as customers will enjoy the new product at a much more
affordable price and the company, due to the long-term deal, will still be able
to score a significant profit.
The plan might actually be for real, considering that for
the moment AT&T demands a two-year contract and does not offer any kind of
price break or other facilities as recognition for the commitment as other
companies do.
At this point the media is being flooded with all sorts of
rumors which make it harder to believe anything else that shows up. A few days
ago, Engadget announced that the new phone will be a bit thicker than its
predecessor, while Fortune stated that the 3G iPhone will be 2.5 mm
thinner.
Another rumor appeared in Italy last week and regarded
Apple’s new business direction. According to the Italian newspaper La
Repubblica, Apple knows that many of its customers unlock their phones and use
third-party software, so company officials decided to lose the contracts and
just sell phones. The paper announced that the revenue sharing model will be
dropped and that the price for the phone will be higher than in other European
countries.
Until an official statement will be presented, there is no
doubt that many more news will make the front pages.
