The NSC Wants To Ban The Use Of Mobile Phones In Cars

It has been demonstrated that driving while talking on your mobile phone is extremely dangerous, being a too big distraction, keeping the driver’s mind away from the road.

The National Safety Council is calling for a total nationwide driver ban on the use of cell phones, including hands-free devices was demonstrated scientifically that driving while talking on the phone, even if using a hands free device, is not safe at all. Figures suggest that 6 percent of all crashes are caused by mobile phones.

This means that approximately 636,000 crashes, 12,000 serious injuries and 2,600 deaths each year are caused by people distracted by their cell phones while driving.

On this basis, the non-profit National Security Council is asking all the states to devise a piece of legislation, banning talking on your cell phone while driving.

There have been restrictions referring to the use of cell phones in cars in some states, but nowhere the complete ban was applied. Some studies even state that driving while talking on the phone is the same as driving under the influence of alcoholic drinks.

Researchers proved that using a hands free device, like a Bluetooth headset, is as distracting as holding the phone to your ear, and takes away most of the driver’s concentration.

This is mainly because while talking on the phone one must concentrate a lot more on the context of the conversation than when talking to somebody face to face, where the body language is also available.
