The Magnificent Black History

Drexel University hosted the 12th Annual Black History Month Fashion Show on the 7th of February by combining fashion, dance performance, and music. The show’s theme was "The Epiphany of Me: When I discover who I am, I'll be free- R. Ellison."
 
Throughout the show, DJ Cashmere made a mix of music genres ranging from hip-hop to gospel, R&B to soul. The crowd was encouraged to dance throughout a significant part of the show. While the DJ took care of the crowd’s entertainment covering the music chapter, the two-energetic hosts of the event acquainted the audience's attention to the performance and the fashion show which made everybody feel like travelling through time and across borders. There were model of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities who wore similar garments depicting personal style.
 
The "Time for a Change" part illustrated the various hardships in life. The models, casually dressed, carried black umbrellas with all kinds of messages written on them, using words like racism, violence, war, disease, imprisonment and poverty.
 
Nowadays, the African roots of humanity are striving to be discovered through approximately 200 Black Studies disciplines all around the United States. These courses are supposed to accomplish faculty goals through cultural grounding, academic excellence and social responsibility.
 
The Legion of Black Collegians was created by undergraduates who were interested in experiencing the total scope of American history at a college that was a truly inclusive institution. With the help of Arvarh Strickland, professor of history, and the Ethnic Minorities Committee, appeared minority representation on committees, the creation of a Black Culture Center, and the establishment of a Black Studies program 39 years ago.
