Facebook users received some bad news lately as the Kobface virus, which was believed to have been eradicated back in October, seems to be back attacking the popular social networking site. Security experts have stated that the virus infiltrated users’ computers and remained inactive for a period, only to strike back during this period.
It is extremely difficult for Facebook to deal with the problem and completely eradicate the annoying virus, as Koobface is to be found in the computers of a small number of their users. The virus sends messages to other users urging them to click on videos uploaded on various video sharing sites.
The situation could be aggravated as Facebook has recently launched an extra feature, called Facebook connect, that lets users use their account information as log in for other sites, making social networking a more widespread phenomenon. Facebook is updating its security systems in order to minimize the impact of the virus, but there is little it can do for those who already have the computers infected with Koobface.
The measures taken consist of resetting passwords for infected accounts, deleting the spam messages that can lead to virus infected sites and most importantly, collaborating with other sites in order to remove the threat forever.
Security experts have declared that it is very hard to catch the virus using anti malware software, as Koobface is designed to change its signature every five minutes, and such software function by detecting a common signature of a certain virus.
