Teen pop idols the Jonas Brothers hold no grudge against British comedian Russell Brand, who mocked their purity rings and pledges of virginity during Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards.
While in the UK to promote their new Disney movie "Camp Rock," the trio said they weren't bothered by Brand's jokes saying they respected the fact that he recognized they are gentlemen, the youngest of brothers, Nick, said.
He even went on to compliment Brand, adding, "I think he did a good job. We saw him on Conan O'Brien and thought he was hilarious."
Brand, a confessed former sex addict, later apologized for his comments during the ceremony when he ridiculed their beliefs saying: "I feel a bit bad that I kept talking about their vows to chastity and I'd like to take this opportunity to say no one ever have sex again. It's a mad idea. What a way to spend an evening."
Furthermore, when they were asked about their opinion on whether Brand had misjudged the audience, Kevin Jonas said he thought that the comedian focused on certain things and didn't move off of them, and people's attention spans needed more than that but all in all, they all enjoyed themselves at the awards.
"We had a lot of friends there and everybody's so nice. We had a good time," he added.
"American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks used her moment on stage at the VMAs to strike back against Brand, saying: "It's not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut."
While the Jonas Brothers, who performed a rendition of their song Lovebug at the ceremony, took Brand's hosting performance surprisingly well, the comedian triggered a lot negative reactions by picking on US President George Bush, calling him "that retarded cowboy fella," and urging everyone to vote for Barack Obama, also taking a shot at Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin and her pregnant daughter, saying "The safe sex message is to use a condom or become a Republican."
"Some people – I think they're called racists – say America is not ready for a black president," Brand, who until now was relatively unknown in the US, said in front of the celebrity-filled crowd at the Paramount Studios lot in Los Angeles. "But I know America to be a forward thinking country because otherwise, you know, would you have let that retarded cowboy fella be president for eight years?"
Early in his opening monologue, Brand pleaded: "Please, America, elect Barack Obama. On behalf of the world. Certainly, Brand's performance gained him both fans and enemies on Sunday night, but as pop star Nick Lachey put it, "at the end of the day, strange things happen at the VMAs — they always have."
