The Grammys – Winners and Outfits

The 2009 Grammys Awards were marked by an overstock of quirky collaboration, tearful acceptance speeches, and everything from "limestone" rock to marching bands. From short and glimmery to fruity and funny or better yet ridiculous, the stars hit some high and low fashion notes at the 51st annual celebration.

The performances featured some memorable match-ups ranging from the cool (Chris Martin & Jay-Z) to the completely unexpected (The Jonas Brothers and … Stevie Wonder?), but each one was unique and kept viewers close to their TV’s.

Pop songstress Katy Perry obviously turned many heads on the red carpet as she appeared in an elegant, sleeveless pink dress by Lebanese designer Basil Soda. But heads completely spanned when she performed her breakout hit “I Kissed a Girl” wearing a fruit-filled short mini dress featuring hanging bananas. Her nightmare of a dress surely would have made even Josephine Baker cringe.

No rock band received more Grammy awards than Britain's Coldplay, which walked away with three trophies. Singer Chris Martin described the group as the "limestone of rock – a little softer, but just as charming.”

The legendary Sir Paul McCartney and Neil Diamond were both awarded a Grammy for their most recent albums, but when it was their turn to entertain they went for the old classic hits from their musical catalogs.

A remarkable performance was that of hip-hopper M.I.A. who was carrying quite a load when she hit the red carpet on Sunday.

As unbelievable as it may seem, the Grammy night happened to be the same night she was set to give birth to her first child. But that did not stop the Record of the Year nominee from performing, as she came prepared with an emergency plan in case nature called. Luckily she managed to perform without any problem “Swagger Like Us” with Kanye West, Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne and T.I.

Lil Wayne who won four Grammys used his time on stage to pay tribute to his hometown, New Orleans while the much expected performance of Rihanna and Chris Brown was cancelled in the last minute. The two were replaced by soul legend Al Green, who decked out in Blues Brother shades and led Justin Timberlake, Boyz II Men and Keith Urban through an all-star rendition of his classic "Let's Stay Together."

Estelle nabbed a trophy for best rap/sung collaboration with Kanye West for her hit “American Boy” wearing a shimmery metallic dress that reminds you of the Jetson cartoons.

Robert Plant and partner Allison Krauss scored five awards for their 2007 album "Raising Sand," including both Album of the Year and Record of the Year.

The most remarkable presence at the Grammy Awards was definitely that of Jennifer Hudson. Considering all the personal tragedies she has endured, Jennifer managed to turn the evening in one of the most memorable ever. Just minutes after winning her first Grammy award (for Best R&B Album), the teary-eyed diva took to the stage with a full gospel choir and belted out a moving rendition of her ballad "You Pulled Me Through," which was rewarded a standing ovation from the audience.
