T-Mobile announced its intention to introduce the G1 device in several new European countries over the next few weeks.
"We will introduce the G1 by January 30 in the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria," stated T-Mobile’s Chief Executive Hamid Akhavan during a press conference yesterday. The device will be available in Germany through T-Mobile’s Deutsche Telekom wireless unit starting with February 2 and also in Poland by the end of the same month.
T-Mobile’s offer for the G1 phone comes with a two-year contract in the United States, where customers can purchase the smartphone for $179. According to the reports, an estimated 400,000 phones were sold in 2008 in the United States.
"We have sold several hundred thousand phones. Sales have clearly exceeded our expectations," Akhavan said, adding that the G1 was one of the most successful phones ever to be sold in the United States.
T-Mobile will sell the G1 in Germany for 1 euro ($1.33), offer available only with a two year contract with the carrier. The revenue is expected to come in from the massive data traffic expected.
Google opened its platform to all interested developers, in an effort to bring in new and interesting applications and attract new customers. The main focus is to present an attractive offer on the European market, in order to score a similar success as the one registered in the United States. The price is likely to appeal to many technology enthusiasts, as the device has been awaited for quite some time.
