“Star Wars” is definitely not over. In spite of the fact
that creator George Lucas has constantly rejected rumors regarding the filming
of a new blockbuster trilogy, he and his crew nonetheless worked on depicting
the gaps between the existing films in different forms. For instance, they
created the CGI animated sci-fi production “The Clone Wars,” which was released
last month and the “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” video game, out today.
The video game designed for most major platforms has the
grand mission of filling the two-decade gap between the two trilogies. Surely,
it manages to reach its goals with regard to the storyline, but viewed as a genuine
game, “The Force Unleashed” can be outrageously potholed.
The game describes the way up of Darth Vader’s secret
apprentice, a young Jedi dubbed StarKiller. He is assigned to get hold of all
the remaining Jedi Knights so that he can clear the way for Vader’s ascent to
supreme power. You’ve got it. You have been chosen to be the bad guy. That
should be interesting, I’d say.
Players can use metal to create rough and ready bridges or smash
starship glass to smithereens so as to send ill fated storm troopers flying
into space void. Still, those resourceful ideas are only short-lived let-ups
from the immensity of the gameplay.
“The Force Unleashed” features new characters such as the
droid Proxy and pilot Juno Eclipse, but it does not lack familiar personas like
Jawas, Wookies and the popular Princess Leia.
However, the game does not come alone. It’s “Star Wars,” remember?
There also is a comic book, a novel and a line of action figures. And fans seem
to enjoy it all, as stores stayed open last night for admirers to satisfy their
“Star Wars” needs.
“The Force Unleashed” is an interesting addition to the much-loved
franchise, but a little more originality could have made the game a real blast.
