The discussions about the second-generation G2 Android phone are not going anywhere for now, as the gadget blog Gizmodo managed to get some pictures of a new white HTC phone which is believed to be the new T-Mobile G2.
In order to make an accurate impression, the blurry photos should have been better. Still, it is enough to get a feel of the new product. The first two aspects observed are its size, as it is thinner, and the missing slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It appears that the G2 will feature only a virtual keypad, similar to the one available on the iPhone. The change might not be received with enthusiasm by the company’s fans, as this was considered one of its strong points.
The photos also show a 3.2 megapixel camera and a touchscreen interface just like its predecessor’s. The unnamed sources claim that the device will be released by the middle of the year.
T-Mobile’s release of the original G1 device, introduced the market to the first Android-based phone, which registered a massive worldwide success. Looking to get a piece of the pie, many companies announced their enterance into this segment, preparing their own Android-based devices. The companies working on such projects include Samsung, Sony Ericsson, NTT DoCoMo and Motorola.
The G1 was considered at first an answer to Apple’s iPhone, which was dominating the touchscreen smartphone market. The iPhone is responsable for the start of this trend, which even convinced Research in Motion to release its first touchscreen BlackBerry, the Storm.
