Man always had the urge to discover new things and today’s
reality is that there is little left of the Earth to discover. Fortunately,
outer space is infinite so we can redirect our common thirst for discovery to
its unexplored borders. We’ve been to the moon and back, we’ve circled the
planet’s orbit, we’ve sent satellites all over the galaxy, we’ve even figured
out how the sun works. All we need to do now is find an easier and cheaper way
to keep exploring.
Space X is a company that researches alternative ways to
fire up a rocket and by doing so tries to reduce the cost of space exploration.
Elon Musk, a former Internet entrepreneur, presently the chief executive of
Space X, has invested $120 million of his own money in this project. This, of
course, paid off and after three unsuccessful launches, the fuel effective
rocket Falcon 1 managed to get into orbit carrying a load of 364 pounds. The
successful launch raised the interest of the Pentagon and of the U.S. National
Aeronautics and Space Administration, further launch contracts being
negotiated.
Elon Musk claims that the success of the Space X program
once again places the U.S as the most competitive country in the world
regarding space exploration. Space X is one of the two companies that the
U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration is counting on to send
government payloads into orbit, delivering cargo to the International Space
Station.
A major challenge for Space X is sizing up their rockets in
order to be able to deliver the necessary amount of cargo. Falcon 9 is a larger
version of the Falcon 1 and is what Space X is currently working on. Space
exploration is necessary in order to fully understand life and even our purpose
as intelligent life forms, to be able to protect and understand our planet,
thus ensuring our way of life. Let’s do it in style, with cost effective
rockets and equipment!
