The FBI recently announced an update on its reward for
information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for the
firebombs fired last weekend on UCSC’s biomedical researchers.
Charlene B. Thornton, the FBI Special Agent in
Charge, said that she hopes the significant amount of money will soon
lead to some useful information about the attackers.
"When people become so blinded by ideology they commit
crimes that trample the rights of their neighbors and put lives in danger, the
FBI must act," Charlene Thornton said in a statement. "We hope this
reward serves as an incentive to take the often difficult step of bringing
important information to the attention of law enforcement,"
she added.
There have been no leads or details disclosed about the case,
but FBI’s officials assured that all the measures needed in such a situation have
been taken, as the investigation is considered one of the bureau’s top
priorities.
Using a surveillance video from one of the houses found in
the neighborhood of the Village Court home where scientist David Feldheim’s
family was attacked, the police investigators hope to determine the number of
people involved and also get a basic description in order to begin the search.
The amount of money offered in exchange for the badly needed
information is the largest bounty offered in the city’s history and will hopefully
offer the expected results.
Police Chief Howard Skerry appeared very
touched and bothered by the events. "This is an attack on this
community," he said. "A family was attacked in the sanctity of their
home. We are not going to stop until we find those responsible."
