In a recent data comparison it seems that on the portable gaming platforms, the DS is winning in terms of sales. Nintendo’s DS main competitor, Playstation’s PSP, has sold less, but shines at promoting third party software, whereas the DS is well known for the games produced by mother company, Nintendo.
In the battle between the two portable consoles it is important to note, the two gadgets have two different ways at approaching games. The games on the PSP are more similar to the ones that are ported on bigger consoles, where the ones on the DS seem like nothing seen on its bigger counterpart the Wii.
According to the figures there are 653 titles released for the Ds and just 396 titles for Sony’s PSP. The Ds has managed to sell 20 titles in millions of copies, while the PSP only has three games that sold in such numbers. This is where it is very important to mention that among the DS titles we can clearly see a lot of Nintendo products, while on the PSP Sony produced games are a little scarcer.
It is also very important to mention that these figures only apply for the US, where the PSP is known to have struggle a lot on the market. When looking on the market in Japan, things might change for Sony’s little device, as the game Monster Hunter has caused a real frenzy among gamers of all ages.
All in all, someone should pick its portable gaming platform according to what games he enjoys most, not according to sale figures. If you’re a Nintendo person, o for the DS and if you hate Mario, PSP is the one for you.
