The North American International Auto Show was opened today for the public and the focus was put on vehicles that are less gas guzzlers and more eco-friendly, relying on electricity. General Motors has recently unveiled such a car at the Detroit Auto Show. The car is called the Cadillac Converj, and it is not GM’s first attempt at making an electric car.
The Converj is very similar to the CTS Coupe presented last year that was pulled off, and it seems that it has now returned under the form of an electrical-powered car.
General Motors stated that as long as one owns the Converj he will not have to buy one drop of gasoline.
This statement can be entirely true, as the Converj uses an electric motor. The problem with electric cars is that they are very unreliable and recharging them takes forever.
The Chevrolet Volt, GM’s previous attempt at building an electric car, would run about 40 miles on its battery before switching to gasoline or needing a recharge. On the other hand, the performances o the Converj were not made public, neither what kind of battery it uses.
This makes the car open to speculation; it may use the same engine as the Volt or a more powerful engine that would make for better performances.
The industry’s stress on designing more reliable electric cars is well reasoned, with petrol prices going up the world economy going down.
