The 2008 Democratic National Convention, which starts tomorrow in Denver, managed to stir the media and the general public quite a bit, with more than 15,000 visitors expected to show up, in addition to the 15,000 journalists invited from all over the world.
"It's our home away from home," said NBC News Channel Senior Producer Greg Kohler. "We have to create every part of it," he added, referring to NBC’s 6,000 square feet tent.
Every single TV network has prepared a team or several crews to cover the event and major players like NBC, ABC and CBS have scheduled an hour from 10 to 11 p.m. for each night of the week in order to offer their viewers the newest details from the convention. Also, NBC, MSNBC and MSNBC.com announced more than 200 hours of live coverage; PBS announced three hours every night and C-SPAN six hours daily.
All networks and cable channels have promised a complete overview and constantly updated materials on the TV sets and also online, knowing that the event presents major interest for millions of people.
“What we saw during the nomination season was an unprecedented level of interest in this election,” said David Chalian, the political director at ABC News, adding that: “You have an American electorate looking for what’s next.”
Scheduled to speak, among others, are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and people are looking forward to hearing their latest thoughts and also, without a doubt, their passionate debates with each other.
