“The Dark Knight” is believed to become the summer’s
highest-grossing movie as it is heading toward the $200 million mark. According
to Variety, the Batman sequel made $24.6 million at the domestic box office
Monday and it has made a total of $182.9 million in four days.
Even though distributor Warner Bros. estimated that “The
Dark Knight” would fall about 18% on Sunday and other studios said it would
fall 20%, the movie slipped only 9%. With this impressive interest from the
audience, “The Dark Knight” has many chances to become the summer’s
highest-grossing film.
Warner Bros. domestic distribution chief Dan Fellman said
that it was very likely that the movie would surpass “Iron Man” ($314.4 million
to date) and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” ($312.6
million to date).
“I think that's not going to be a difficult task. I think we're
going to be way up there,” said Dan Fellman, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Some say that “The Dark Knight” could reach the total of
$400 million. The highest-grossing film is “Titanic” with $600.8. “Dark Knight”
is played in 4,366 runs and it should earn about $230 million in the first
week.
“The Dark Knight” earned Sunday the record sum of $43.6
million. Warner Bros. expects that the movie will win at least one more weekend and
earn many millions this week.
