“The Dark Knight” Leader of the Box-Office Three Weekends in a Row

You can’t really say this was a surprise. Some people might have been a little skeptical but “the Dark Knight” did it again, three times in a row or three weekends in a row. The movie has surpassed “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon,” winning $43.8 million at the weekend box office, being on the way to becoming the second-biggest movie of all time.

According to Variety, the new “Mummy” movie took in $42.4 million from 3,760 screens while “The Dark Knight” grossed $43.8 million from 4,266, accumulating $394.9 million. Universal and box observers thought that “Dragon Emperor” would win the battle, but it appears they were wrong. Even if “The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor”, ranked first in Friday box office, “The Dark Knight” dethroned it.

“The Dark Knight” exceeded its budget of $185 million and it has great chances to take 1977’s “Star Wars’” place, coming right after “Titanic” who is number one movie of all time in North America, having won a total of $601 million. As the movies that are scheduled for next weekend don’t seem to be a threat, “The Dark Knight” could have another victory. It was down only 42% this weekend and it is the first movie since 2007’s “Disturbia” to win the box office three weekends in a row.

So, “The Dark Knight” was on first place, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon” came second, while the “Step Brothers” came on third, gathering $16.3 million.Coming on the fourth place at the box office was “Mamma Mia!” with $13.1 million and “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” which stars Brendan Fraser, grossed $6.9 million. Kevin Costner’s “Swing Vote” was disappointing, winning only $6.3 million. Superhero “Hancock” was on seventh place with $5.2 million and “WALL-E” followed it with $4.7 million. “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” won $3.4 million and on “Space Chimp” came on the tenth place with $2.8 million.

So, basically, everybody is waiting to see what happens next with “The Dark Knight.” Warner Bros. executive Jeff Goldstein said that the movie should sum up $400 million Monday or Tuesday.

“What happens after this is only a guess,” said Goldstein, according to E! Online.
