'The Dark Knight' is like its main character: unstoppable. After breaking the box-office record for the best three days debut making more than $150 million last weekend alone, the movie has managed to break another three more records, and ticket sales are expected to continue to be very good.
At the moment of its release, nobody thought 'The Dark Knight' will become this summer's box-office star, let alone the record breaker it turned out to be. Its producers were amazed when their film replaced Spider-Man 3 in the top of the movies with the biggest debut revenues, but still didn't expect things to turn out they way they have.
Ten days after being released, 'The Dark Knight' has become the fastest film to cash in over $300 million, the movie that made the highest amount of money in the 10 days following its release, as well as the box-office record for second weekend screenings.
It's hard to say why the movie fared so well, but I honestly think it deserved it. The only regret I have is that Heath Ledger is no longer among us to taste his movie's success. The Australian actor delivers a magnificent performance as the Joker, one that in my opinion exceeds even Jack Nicholson's. It is truly sad that we won't be able to see how Ledger would have evolved as an actor, but he would have had extremely good chances of becoming the best one in his generation.
And if people are wondering what's next for director Christopher Nolan's latest movie, the answer is beating the $600 million record that Titan has managed to set. I for one hope to see this happening.
