The Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival debuted hit-like,
although it did not lack technical and organizational related problems.
However, it comes as no surprise, since approximately 60,000 music lovers took
over Golden Gate Park so as to attend a top-notch talent
exhibition.
Perhaps Radiohead was one of the most popular groups to hit
the stage on Saturday, but yesterday’s program, nonetheless, ended with a
two-hour performance which unfortunately uncovered the fervent English band
striving to overcome numerous technical difficulties.
Produced by San Francisco’s Another Planet Entertainment and
the crew which also organizes Tennessee’s annual Bonnaroo Festival, the
three-day Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival includes over 60 musical
performances on six stages in Golden Gate Park’s Polo Field, Speedway Meadow
and Lindley Meadow. Besides the musical acts, the fest also features
presentations on environmental issues, a technologically advanced interactive
circus tent, plus plenty of snacks and booze offered by Bay Arena producers.
The event is due to conclude this evening with a top-billing set by Jack
Johnson.
In spite of the unavoidable gray fog, which almost covered
the stages, all the three-day tickets had been given out by the fest’s second
day and the music ran practically nonstop. The gigs kicked off on Friday at 5
p.m. on only three stages and the crowds filled the park’s fields slowly but
surely.
Beck, one of the most famous and popular names of the fest’s
first edition list, performed on the pretty restricted Sutro Stage in Lindley
Meadow, which produced a major tailback as a measureless crowd went all-out to
fit in.
Other Saturday music acts included Steve Winwood, Café
Tacvba, the Coup, Primus, Matt Nathanson and Regina Spektor.
