The Consoles' Holiday Race

As the winter holidays are coming closer and closer, console manufacturers engage in the race for who will have the most sales. A close look on this competition puts on the horizon the big three in the gaming industry: Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony. All of them are ready to step on the gas and take pole position in this year’s race for the holiday sell-out. As usual, this time of year features the most changes and new releases in the gaming world, as games are revealed and launched on to different gaming platforms.

Nintendo’s advantage this year comes in the form of its Wii platform which is still enjoying a large amount of popularity. The Wii has the advantage of being the “special” one in the bunch, not being the traditional brick with remote control console. The Wiimote proves to be as fascinating as it first was on its release, the concept being praised by gamers worldwide.

On the other hand, Microsoft’s Xbox also has some aces up its sleeve, with Microsoft lowering costs for their Arcade version of the console. Presently, the Arcade Xbox 360 is only $200 and this will prove crucial in the holiday season when, generally, people spend some large amounts of cash on different presents. Xbox will also attract gamers by being able to run the new Gears Of War game, which still proves to be very popular.

Sony’s Playstation, on the other hand, enjoys the status of being the most privileged out of the three “competitors.” With games being released for the Playstation 3 and PSP, Sony is sure to sell their products in high numbers and will certainly be a feared adversary for Nintendo and Microsoft alike. The Playstation 3 also has the advantage of being able to play Blu-ray movies and this will make it the logical choice for those wanting a decent gaming console and a device capable of playing different kinds of media. The release of Iron Man and other box office successes in Blu-ray format may have the ability to give Sony the necessary momentum to sell the most products.
