ABC’s finale of "The Bachelor" dominated the primetime ratings Monday due to its unique final conclusion. The two-hour "Bachelor" was seen by 15.5 million viewers -- its highest tally since 2005, and its highest adult demo rating since 2003. Just like last season, the "After the Final Rose" special (17.5 million) outperformed the finale itself, drawing a rating that very few series this year can match.
So, after Monday night’s Bachelor finale, Jason Mesnick picked Melissa as The One. But then in a shocking twist, had a change of heart and wound up with Bachelorette No. 2, Molly.
In the meantime, ABC has crowned their latest victim of reality TV drama: Jillian Harris, who finished 3rd during this season of The Bachelor is going to be the next Bachelorette.
The 22-year-old Interior Designer was announced as the new Bachelorette last night during the “After the Final Rose: Part 2″
Jillian is obviously very happy about her spin-off and feels very lucky to have been chosen. “I’ve been a huge fan of the show since day one, and I’ve always looked at The Bachelorette as, ‘Oh my god, they’re so lucky, how did they get there?’ And now I’m sitting here&mda’s very surreal.”
People informs us that on today’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, the reality show host shares his perspective on Bachelor Jason Mesnick’s shocking change of heart, which was revealed on the After the Final Rose special Monday night. When asked if Mesnick, 32, should have chosen Melissa Rycroft, 25, over Molly Malaney, 24, in the finale, Harrison replies, “Oh, yeah, she was terrific. When we left New Zealand [where the finale was filmed in November] we could not [have] been happier because it was a great ending. He is a great guy. This is best ending. She’s going to be a mom [to his son, Ty, 4].”
