The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas represents a great way for all the companies involved to make their presence known, or better known, on the market – and this is exactly the case for the game console makers, which even though had a great year, are always looking for better sales and keep the competition between them strong.
Microsoft’s Chief Executive Steve Ballmer is expected to talk a lot about the Xbox 360 and Sony’s Chief Howard Stringer will also address the company’s PlayStation. The reason why these two will seek to get their message across is because, so far, Nintendo’s Wii managed to get the best sales results in the past few months, holding on tight to the number one spot.
Two of the reasons for its success are clearly the significantly lower price and also the fact that it is focused on family-friendly games.
Microsoft and Sony focused their efforts on bringing many new features to their consoles, in order to make them the “go to” device for any sort of entertainment.
For now, there are no official plans to cut any of the prices, as the two companies recorded very good sales during the holiday season, building up a momentum which is expected to keep them going for a few more months. Still, this could be the easiest way to make the devices more accessible to gaming enthusiasts, as the PS3’s price of $399 scares off many potential customers, which turn their attention to the competition.
