‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ is a movie that
has all the chance of becoming a box office hit - at least because of the
success of its predecessor. Andrew Adamson’s movie surely has everything it
takes to make a great war and fantasy movie, but lacks just the ingredients
that made ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and Wardrobe’ a
special film of its kind: innocence, sacrifice and forgiveness.
Miraz (Sergio Castellitto ) wants to kill the rightful heir
of the throne in Narnia, Prince Caspian(Ben Barnes). The prince flees and hides
in the woods where he finds himself surrounded by Narnians, long considered to
be just a legend. Caspian, in need of help to get the throne back, blows
Susan’s magic horn and the Pevensie kids, Peter (William Moseley), Susan (Anna
Popplewell), Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) are taken from a
London subway
station and transported to a beach in Narnia. The children form an alliance
with the Narnians and help them fight against Miraz, in a war aimed at
restoring Narnia to what it used to be.
Sergio Castellitto makes a wonderful appearance as Miraz.
His evil intentions are always suggested by the way he acts and there is a
feeling of power that emanates from every move the actor makes, while still
maintaining a good sense of humor when the story asks for it.
However, the star Disney is putting its money on is Ben
Barnes. The British actor, who appeared in ‘Stardust,’ performed his own sword
fighting and horse riding scenes. Even though his appearance in Stardust was
much acclaimed, the critics show skepticism to what his current performance is
concerned.
All in all, ‘Prince Caspianis a movie that seems to be
targeted more to the adults than to the children. Whether it will be able to
compete with the forthcoming hits as Wanted, due to be screened on June 27,
remains to be seen.
