Apple Inc. has invited the press and industry analysts on
Tuesday, October the 14th, at its Cupertino headquarters, to discuss about
notebook computers. The meeting’s slogan was a simple, brief one: “The
spotlight turns to notebooks.” The company is expected to unveil new versions
of its MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook computers, including a version priced
below $1000 for the first time.
VentureBeat considers that in the current
situation, with users scared of the economy downfall, their job and their
retirement, a notebook starting from around $800 will be the best bet for Steve
Jobs’s company. This expected reduction may come from the fact that Apple has
improved the manufacturing process of these notebooks by using a single brick
of aluminum. The company denied the rumors and said it will show the press real
photos of the laptop, claiming the notebook will be something the competition
would find hard to catch up to.
Although it might seem that Apple is not affected by the
economic crisis, they carry most of their business in the USA and Western
Europe, which are some of the most troubled markets.
Currently, the company’s cheapest notebook, MacBook, sells
for $1,099. The upcoming under $1000 will help Apple compete with its rivals in
this domain: Dell, HP and Acer.
Even if the announcement does not mention that the notebook
will be presented at the conference, some news sites and newspapers predicted a few
weeks ago that Apple will show the notebook on October the 14th. Even if no one
is sure what the company’s plans are, speculation helped Apple increase its
company stock, which gained 2.2 percent.
