The nominees for the 66th annual Golden Globes have already been announced; now everyone is just holding their breath waiting for the winners to be announced.
While Meryl Streep achieved a double nomination for best performance by an actress in a drama (“Doubt”) and best actress in a musical or comedy (“Mamma Mia!”), the Devil Wears Prada co-star Anne Hathaway was nominated only once – also for best actress but for the searing drama “Rachel Getting Married.”
Kate Winslet was also nominated twice: for best actress (drama) for "Revolutionary Road" and best supporting actress for "The Reader," a British drama film based on the 1995 German novel written by Bernhard Schlink.
Nominees for best performance by an actor in a drama include Leonardo DiCaprio for “Revolutionary Road,” Frank Langella for “Frost/Nixon”, Sean Penn for “Milk,” Brad Pitt for “The curious Case of Benjamin Button” and last but not least, Mickey Rourke for “The Wrestler.”
The nominations for best supporting actresses were earned by Amy Adams for the aforesaid “Doubt,” Penelope Cruz for “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” Viola Davis, also for “Doubt,” Marisa Tomei for “The Wrestler” and, as mentioned above, Kate Winslet for “The Reader.”
As for the best supporting actors, the nods were received by Ralph Fiennes for “The Duchess,” Philip Seymour Hoffman for “Doubt,” late Health Ledger for “The Dark Knight” and Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr., both for the much-criticized “Tropic Thunder.”
The best director award will go to one of the following: Danny Boyle for “Slumdog Millionaire,” Stephen Daldry for “The Reader,” David Fincher for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Ron Howard for “Frost/Nixon” or Sam Mendes for “Revolutionary Road.”
