Sad to hear, the 118 cats rescued last week from a Saint Anthony, Minnesota mobile home were euthanized, according to authorities. The Humane Society officials rescued the 118 cats on Tuesday, but they were deemed too sick to be adopted, as the director of animal services for the Animal Humane Society (AHS) said the cats are damaged from their marginalized environment, both psychologically and physically.
A neighbor complained about the smell coming from the residence of Cheryl and Stanley Saladis’ home on February 10, and the Animal Humane Society immediately came, but quickly acknowledged that the animals had respiratory infections, herpes and ringworm. Stanley Saladis has already been convicted of cruelty to animal charges in 2003.
Furthermore, the couple also had hundreds of dolls in the trailer, some of which were found in the refrigerator. They have been given 10 days to clean their home. Besides the fact that the cats were very sick, the AHS also said they can’t risk harming other animals in their facility. However, many criticize this decision, even if it seems there was no other alternative.
Animal Ark, another well-known animal organization, said it already knew, after it heard the AHS saved the cats, that the organization will euthanize them. They say the Humane Society could have saved the animals if they had returned their calls. According to Animal Ark, the AHS refused to provide the care those animals needed. It remains to be seen if either one of the animal organizations will prove its cause, even if they theoretically fight for the same one.
