Thai police said it will charge the owner of the Bangkok night club in which 62 people burned to death on New Year’s Eve night.

The owner, Wisuth Setsawat, apologized to the grieving families of the victims. In address broadcasted on TV in which he publicly apologized, the man was crying.

"I feel very sorry for what happened. I want to apologize to victims' family members," he said on Channel Three station.

The fire, which also left more than 30 people in critical condition, was apparently caused by fireworks that were lit on stage during the celebration of New Year’s Eve. Escaping the night club was almost impossible in conditions of overcrowding and panic because there was no fire exit and the windows had bars.

For ignoring basic safety rules, the owner of the night club will be charged with carelessness leading to the death of others and with admitting underage people to the club. The charges will be pressed when the paperwork on the summons is wrapped up.

Survivors said they saw flames shooting up from a stage in the club. The flames set the ceiling on fire and the night club turned into inferno. The toxic fumes produced by the fire killed many of the victims. The lights went out at some point, which sent the panic level up, and then the burning ceiling collapsed.

The death toll included South Koreans, Japanese and Singaporeans, authorities said. About 229 people were injured in the fire and collapse and 32 of them are currently in intensive care struggling to survive.
