Texas Takes Over Peanut Butter Recall

On Friday, the Department of State Health Services from Texas announced that it is taking full control over the recall of peanut butter products from the Peanut Corporation of America processing plant in Plainview. The plant has been the second place where the health officials had found products infected with salmonella.

The Texas state health department said that this move has come after the Texas officials got no response from the company to the recall order they had issued last week. They stated in a news release that the distributors along with the manufacturers and retailers thought to have obtained products from the company back in 2008.

Still, they are now being notified about the recall by DSHS food safety personnel and are also asked to take proper action in order to protect the consumers, the health department also stated. In addition, the officials hope to find the consumer lists from the previous years in the records of the company.

After health inspectors found a leaking roof inside the processing plant in Plainview, they had also discovered that the plant was hosting dead rodents and bird feathers along with their excrements. The officials quickly ordered the recall of all the products which came out of Plainview since 2005, when it had opened. The recall order was issued on February 12.

Steven Parnell, the president of the company, was accused of murdering the nine people who had died because of the salmonella outbreak and the 654 people sickened by the same disease. A criminal probe was initiated into the company for the outbreak which had taken place in 44 states and Canada.
