Friday, two teenagers who were canoeing at the Lake Meredith
National Recreation Area discovered a plane that crashed in 1984.
The discovery was
made by John Ware, 18, and Greg Daly, 16, both of Fritch, who were canoeing on Lake Meredith.
According to the Huston Chronicle, authorities have found in
the plane two men. One of them was the pilot and the other one was the
passenger.
The plane was a small, two-seat Beech 77.
Steven Lampe, the pilot, and Larry Lucas, the passenger,
died in 1984 when the plane crashed. Two
days after the plane crashed, a wheel from the plane and a jacket were found
floating on the water. Search crews have looked for the plane for 6 days, but
with no results.
National Park Service officials said the discovery from Lake Meredith
was indeed the plane that crashed 24 years ago.
According to KFDA, the plane left from Tradwinds Airport
but never came back.
The personnel from the park have closed the area so that the
wreckage could be investigated.
Lake Meredith is about 20 miles north of Amarillo.
Spokeswoman Rozanna Pfeiffer said that the authorities have
informed the families of the two men. They can
finally know for sure what happened.
