Some photos of Tesla Model S, a new electric car set to be unveiled later today, have found their way on the Web. The man responsible for the unofficial photos is none other than Kevin Rose, one of the founders of social-networking site Digg.com.
Rose announced on his Twitter account that “someone leaked me some tesla model s (electric car) pics” and they could be found on
his Flickr page.
The Tesla Model S, which was designed by Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen, will go on sale in 2011.
Tesla still hasn’t announced the final specifications of this all-electric send, but they have already a price tag for this car. Tesla Model S will cost just $57,400 before a $7,500 tax rebate.
However, there are many analysts that doubt that Tesla will be able to match this price tag. Tesla’s Roadster was supposed to cost $92,000 but now costs $109,000 plus a $1,950 “destination charge”.
Tesla Motors is a Silicon Valley automobile startup company which focuses on the production of high performance, consumer-oriented battery electric vehicles.
The company was named after electrical engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla, is known for its fancy electric sports cars and the Model S is company’s attempt to expand into a more mainstream market.
Last year, Tesla Motors unveiled plans for a $250 million factory in San Jose, where it will start manufacturing the Model S. The construction was announced to start in the summer of 2009, and according to Tesla, it will employ 1,000 workers.
