Terrorists Arrested In London

Four men were arrested in London, Wales and Swindon under the charges of conspiring to aid the dangerous Tamil Tigers terrorist organization.

The suspects were caught carrying antennas, high-powered magnets and laptops, believed to be needed for some terrorist activities.

The trial was set for London's City of Westminster Magistrates' Court and the long-term investigation is expected to bring sufficient evidence for the suspects’ permanent incarceration.

The four suspects,  Arunachalam Chrishanthakumar 51, Jegatheswaran Muraleetharan 46, Jeyatheswaran Vythyatharan 39 and Murugesu Jegatheeswaran 33 are believed to have received and transported equipment for terrorist purposes between early 2003 and late 2006.

The Tamil Tigers represent a guerrilla organization which seeks to establish an independent homeland for the Tamil community in the northeast of Sri Lanka. Their actions and efforts are generally known through intense violence. The conflict between the Sri Lanka's pro-government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam group has started 24 years ago and over this period there were more than 70,000 people killed in the clashes. Two attempts of reaching peace were made, but after the last of them made during the peace-talks held in Geneva a year ago, the fighting has intensified.

The LTTE has an estimated 12,000-member land force and a 4,000-strong naval unit.

The International Committee of the Red Cross said that 180 civilians were killed and 270 others were injured this year alone in bombings which occurred on buses, train stations and in the streets.
