McG, who is directing Christian Bale in the upcoming
“Terminator Salvation” film, stood up for his star at a Comic Con press
conference this weekend, describing him as “a professional, passionate actor” and
“a big hearted good guy.”
Christian Bale’s arrest last week over assault allegations filed
by his mother and older sister came as a shock, considering that he has a
reputation as a very serious actor, very given to his craft and as a particularly
private celebrity, who shies from the scrutiny of the media.
The incident has quieted down for the moment, with London authorities
exonerating him and allowing him to continue his trek around the world to
promote the record-shattering “The Dark Knight,” in which he costars alongside late
actor Heath Ledger, whom he had already befriended during the filming of “I’m
Not There.”
Christian Bale has denied the assault allegations and
director McG, real name Joseph McGinty Nichol, who is working with him on
“Terminator Salvation,” defended the star over the weekend, while attending the
Comic Con in San Diego.
“Just for the record, he’s a big hearted good guy,” McG said
Saturday during a panel discussion, as quoted by People.com.
The “Charlie’s Angels” director went on to extol Christian
Bale’s professional ethics and his loyalty to his family.
Saying that he was “delighted” to talk about the 34-year-old
Welsh actor, McG commented that he is “the most professional, passionate actor
you are ever going to find… Bale is just all about the work.”
Referring to the actor’s marriage to model turned makeup
artists Sibi Blazic and the couple’s 3-year-old daughter Emmeline, McG
continued: “He loves his wife, he loves his child, he loves being an actor.
He’s not interested in materialistic things. He wants to come to work
prepared.”
Shortly after reports surfaced that he had been arrested in London, there was further gossip that
Christian Bale was known to have a short temper and that he had erupted before
on the set of one movie or another, including “Terminator.” Rumors that McG has
valiantly eliminated.
Christian Bale stars as John Connor in the fourth “Terminator”
in the franchise, alongside Bryce Dallas Howard as Kate Connor, Anton Yelchin
as Kyle Reese and Sam Worthington as the new terminator Marcus Wright.
