Teri Hatcher Claims Innocence in Lip Plumper Case

Actress Teri Hatcher, accused of having breached her exclusive endorsement contract with skin care company Hydroderm, maintains she did not promote other products and that she has “done absolutely nothing wrong.”

The “Desperate Housewives” actress responded to a lawsuit filed against her by skin care company Hydroderm with papers filed Thursday.

“Contrary to the wild and unsupportable allegations of [Hydroderm], Ms. Hatcher has not entered into agreements with any other cosmetic or skincare companies,” the legal response says.

The documents also assert Hatcher has done “absolutely nothing wrong” in the $2.4 endorsement deal she signed with the company in 2005. Hydroderm filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against the “Desperate Housewives” star Tuesday, requesting that the $2.4 million be returned as well as an additional $400,000.

The company, which produces anti-aging rejuvenating products such as Hydroderm Volumizing Lip Serum, claims Hatcher promoted more than a dozen other beauty-care products from rival companies, such as CityLips lip plumper from City Cosmetics, thus violating her contract.

“Hatcher's name, image and likeness have been linked to so many competitors' products (at least 17!) that it is anyone's guess as to what product keeps her skin and lips youthful,” said the lawsuit.

Hydroderm requested early access to Hatcher’s business records but was denied by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Helen Bendix Thursday, reports E! Online.

Hatcher also said in the papers that she respected her part of the deal “despite having to deal with a frustrating series of changes in the ownership and management of Hydroderm over the last several years.”

“Clearly, Hydroderm has embarked on this unjustified and public assault on Teri Hatcher’s name, reputation and celebrity in a transparent effort to distract from its own failure to live up to its end of the agreement,” the papers read.

Judge Bendix also commented Thursday that Hydroderm’s insinuation that the 42-year-old actress might use her celebrity status and personal relationships to conceal evidence amounted to “character assassination,” according to E! Online.
