The Turkish government seeks the approval of the Parliament
for raids in Iraq.
This makes the tension between the two countries grow bigger and bigger.
If the Parliament approves this action, then the Turkish
army will cross the border seeking the Kurdish rebels who launch attacks into Turkey from the Kurdish region of Iraq.
In the last two weeks there were reported more than two
dozens of Turkish soldiers and civilians killed during the rebel Kurdish
Workers Party (PKK) attacks, which made the government order quite predictable.
The rebels are said to have taken refuge in northern Iraq mountains, where they make plans on how to
make an autonomous Kurdish region in the far eastern part of Turkey.
U.S.A officials declared that they fear that such an
cross-border attack can cause panic and fights in Kurdish-controlled Iraq, the
only area which is relatively calm.
The United States
sent two top officials, Assistant Secretary of State Dan Fried and
Undersecretary of Defense Eric Edelman, to Ankara
on Saturday due to a growing fear that Turkey
might start an attack into northern Iraq to destroy the rebels’ camps.
"The message I will convey (back to Washington) is that the patience of the
Turkish public is running out", Edelman told reporters.
