Teens Love PS3, Habbo Says

Maybe the sales of PlayStation 3 are trailing behind Xbox 360 and Wii, but it seems like Sony’s gaming platform has gained the love of the teenagers.

A research conducted within Habbo, a virtual world, has shown that from 58,486 individuals who responded to the Global Habbo Youth Survey 2008, 69 percent said that PS3 is “great” or at least “good.”

In comparison, only 64 percent of the respondents have chosen Wii as their favorite gaming console and only 58 percent said they love Microsoft's Xbox 360. The research was conducted between October and November 2007.

Habbo’s survey also revealed some interesting details about the popularity of the gaming consoles in various geographic regions.

For example, based on the survey’s results, Habbo concluded that Xbox 360 is less popular in Europe and Asia compared to the Americas.

Also, an interesting conclusion presented by Habbo is that the Wii is more popular amongst girls up to 16 year old, and is the favoured female choice overall.

It seems like Sony and Microsoft should pay attention and focus their marketing efforts not only to gaing the support of the male gamers, but also of the female gamers.

However, in terms of ownership, the three gaming consoles ranked almost identically: 24 percent of the teens surveyed own a Wii, with 23 percent own a 360 and 21 percent own a PS3.

Emmi Kuusikko, Director of User and Market Insight at Sulake, the company that runs the Habbo world, noted that apparently Wii and PS3 have the most significant growth potential.

"The results of this survey are interesting as it gives us an insight into which brands these teens aspire to as the level of ownership does not correspond to the consoles' popularity," he concluded.
