A teenager was beheaded in an accident that took place in an amusement park ride in the state of Georgia according to media reports.
The accident took place on Saturday at the Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park in the southern US town of Over, Georgia. The 17-year-old was decapitated in a horrible accident at the popular "Batman the Ride", the Atlanta Constitution newspaper wrote.
Investigators said the teenager was responsible for the accident. He reportedly ignored numerous warning signs and scaled two fences to enter a restricted area where the "Batman Ride" was working.
The ride was reportedly going at its maximum speed - 50 miles (80 kilometers) per hour – when it struck the kid and killed him. The South Carolina teen was at the amusement park with his family on a church group day trip. The boy, his family and the group were from Oakley Spring Baptist Church in Salley, S.C., a small town about 30 miles east of Augusta.
The boy’s name wasn’t released by police. He was decapitated when the ride struck him, investigators said. This was the second death related to a ride at the amusement park. Officials at Six Flags Over Georgia closed the rollercoaster
"The areas where the individuals entered were clearly marked with signs marked 'restricted area. Authorized personnel only,' and a sign on a locked gate that read 'Danger zone. Do not enter. Authorized personnel only," said Hela Sheth (park spokeswoman) in a prepared statement.
