Ted Rogers Dies at Age 75

On Tuesday, Rogers Communications announced that founder Ted Rogers had died at age 75 at his home in Toronto.

Rogers, who served as the company’s President and Chief Executing Officer (CEO) and was also the fourth richest person in Canada in terms of net worth, managed to turn a Toronto FM radio station into one of Canada's largest communications companies, specializing in wireless communications and cable television.

Rogers Communications stated they were planning to assemble a special committee so as to assign their new CEO, adding they were to consider both internal and external candidates.

The persons to be taken into account to fill in the position include head of the company's cable operations Edward Rogers, senior vice-president of strategy and development Melinda Rogers and chief operating officer (COO) Nadir Mohamed.

Until the process of naming the next CEO is finalized, Alan Horn is scheduled to serve as CEO, a position he has taken up ever since Rogers was hospitalized in October suffering from a heart condition.

Edward Samuel „Ted” Rogers, Junior founded his company back in 1960, with a C$85,000 loan he used to buy all the shares in local radio station that broadcast on FM (frequency modulation). By the year 1965, Rogers had already joined the cable TV business, while two years later, Rogers Communications was established.

In 1990, Rogers was made an Officer of the Order of Canada, the nation honoring his philanthropic actions, whereas in 1994, he was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame.
