On Wednesday, Michael Arrington announced that he will stop posting on the web site TechCrunch, after he had been spat following to a tech conference in Munich.
Arrington, the founder of the popular blog, stated that he believes that the disappointing event was caused by other envious members of the blogosphere. He added that he is disappointed to see that this is the “appreciation” the community has about his contribution to the tech-related content on the web.
The blogger also accused other tech blogs and startup companies that allegedly accused him for being “unethical” in his writings. According to Arrington, things had been heating as much as he was threatened several times by phone, email and blog comments by a man who “has a gun.”
He added that these threats made him pay large amounts of money on private bodyguards, in order to protect his and his family’s security.
According to market researchers, the current state of the economy is forcing many startup companies in the hi-tech sector to crave for publicity, in order to get as much popularity as they can. This is what other bloggers accused Arrington for, as he had allegedly praised some of these companies in exchange for receiving product information before its competitors did.
However, according to Tim Bajarin, blogging means exposing yourself “on the line,” both to users who praise you and ones that criticize you in one way or another.
