Throughout a week that covered the Grammy increases, as well as Valentine’s Day sales, country singer Taylor Swift came back to the top of the U.S. pop chart on Wednesday, while Grammy winners Robert Plant and Alison Krauss went up 67 spots to No. 2.
Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” album climbed a couple of places to the top of the chart after selling 92,000 units during the week ended February 15, according to figures released by Nielsen SoundScan. The disc has spent nine non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, while the last album to spend more time as a lead was Santana’s “Supernatural,” which lingered 12 weeks on the first position in 1999 and 2000.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ “Raising Sand,” which took home five Grammy awards on February 8, including the prize for album of the year, sold 77,000 copies last week, benefiting from an impressive 715% boost.
Moving on to other Grammy champs and performers, Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends” rose 23 spots to No. 8 with 62,000 and saw a 271% sales increase.
The album collected four Grammys, including song of the year for “Viva la Vida.”
The “Grammy Nominees 2009” compilation jumped three places to No. 9 with 61,000 copies, up 114%, while best new artist winner Adele’s “19” rose 17 spots to the tenth position with 57,000 sold units.
After topping last week’s chart, the Fray’s self-titled album dropped to No. 4 with 75,000, followed by Lily Allen’s “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” which debuted with 70,000 sold copies at No. 5.
