Country music singer Taylor Swift’s newest album “Fearless” marked its 10th non-consecutive week in the top slot on the U.S. album chart after selling 62,000 more records during its most recent week in stores. “Fearless,” the third-best-selling release of 2008, has sold 2.7 million copies in total.
The ten-week run on the top spot is also the longest for any album released this decade. The previous album to have so long a run at No. 1 was Santana’s “Supernatural,” with 12 weeks there in 1999 and 2000. Only eight other albums by solo female artists have earned 10 weeks or more at No. 1. The last to do so was “Jagged Little Pill” by Alanis Morissette, which strung together 12 weeks at No. 1 in 1995 and 1996.
Swift has topped the charts for all but two weeks in 2009, with Bruce Springsteen and the Fray each making cameos at number one before Swift reclaimed her territory.
Coming in closely behind on the #2 slot, at 58,100, is a solo album from former Gap member Charlie Wilson, “Uncle Charlie,” which features production from T-Pain, Stargate and the Underdogs, and cameos from Snoop Dogg, Pain and Jamie Foxx.
The No. 3 on the Billboard chart is Fray’s self-titled album, which debuted at No.1 two weeks back while Nickelback’s “Dark Horse” and Beyonce’s “I Am ... Sasha Fierce” both jumped seven places, up from Nos. 11 and 12 to Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
Swift is featured in the March issue of Rolling Stone magazine, on newsstands now.
