Taylor Swift released her second album earlier this week and
a big success has already started to shape up. The 18-year-old country music
singer is about to see “Fearless” climb atop of the Billboard 200 next Wednesday,
when figures are due to be out.
Universal Music Group, which is distributing the star’s new
album, expects sales to reach 600,000 units until Sunday, a result that would
effortlessly help Taylor Swift’s fresh product become the country album with the
best sales week of the year.
Following her self-titled 2006 debut album, which peaked at
No. 5 in the U.S.
album chart, Taylor Swift brought her fans “Fearless,” a CD that stands out for
its special lyrics, created by the singer herself, as well as for its suave
sound that resembles more pop music rather than country. Although the melodies
may not always make you love them from the start, they gradually swim their way
to your mind and heart (why not?).
Even on her second album, Taylor Swift’s songwriting remains
stuck on boys and failed relationships, reminding her admirers of her breakup
from the Jonas Brothers’ member. Tracks like “Love Story,” “You Belong With Me”
and the gusty title song are quite dreamy, while “Tell Me Why” and “White
Horse” stick to a graver tone. In “The Best Day,” she warmly sings about her
family and the wonderful moments she spends with them and in “Forever and
Always” she tries to express the heartbreaking feelings that usually follow a
split.
Taylor Swift knows how to combine words and songs and reveal
them from a girl’s perspective. And this is the best way to draw teens,
evidently.
